one gate by Benjamin Marx

August 2017

​

one gate was commissioned by Melanie as a site-specific work to take place at the Olympic Sculpture Park in

Seattle, WA. The piece is written for 15 to 45 players comprised of flutes, bass clarinets, and percussion trio, and lasts 45 to 75 minutes. The premier will be featured on August 26, 2017 as part of the Summer at SAM program.

John Cage Musicircus

November 2016

The John Cage Musicircus is a celebration of Cage's works and influence on music, dance, and fine arts. Performers are stationed around the space, and guests are encouraged to wander as the sonic and visual experience shifts.

The New Works Project was founded by Melanie in 2014. The project is dedicated to lowering the financial barriers that exist in commissioning new music, increasing access to new music, and supporting marginalized voices within our community.

Beyond Observation

Cornish Arts Incubator Residency

April 2016

Collaborating with choreographer Brittani Karhoff and visual artist Marijke Keyser, Gunn spent twenty-one days at the Jones Playhouse in Seattle Center. The team created a performance that encouraged and even required audience interaction. Elements of indetermency, improvisation, and precomposed material were used.

Inuksuit by John Luther Adams

Seward Park

September 2015

Under the direction of Gunn, 21 percussionists took the field at Seward Park for the local premier of this work, which yielded rave reviews across Seattle.

​

This performance was funded by the Seattle Office of Arts and Culture and the Washington State Percussive Arts Society.

Downtown Seattle

December 2014

As part of Make Music New York's "Worldwide In C", Gunn organized a group of eight musicians to perform and live stream the hour-long work at University Station. 

Luncheonette Concert Series

Henry Art Museum

September 2013 - June 2014

​

Gunn, along with Daria Binkowski and Sonja Myklebust, organized a monthly concert series at the Henry featuring students from the University of Washington. Performances were staged in various locations throughout the gallery and lasted approximately one hour.
